Manchester United confirmed this morning that Erik ten Hag has been sacked as manager of the club.
The news was announced this morning following the Red Devils’ defeat at West Ham United.
The club currently sit 14th in the table having lost four out of nine league games.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is ‘working with the club’ on the next steps.
Ten Hag was retained in the summer, however with the club already losing touch of the European positions, the club have now made the decision to sack him.
However, this decision does not come without consequences to the club, with United having to pay out the rest of his contract which runs until 2026.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, it will cost the club £17 million to sack the Dutchman, otherwise known as 20% of an entire Antony.
While this will be a nice pay day for the 53-year-old, he probably would've preferred to have kept his job.
This large sum will also be off annoyance to owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who has been trying to save the club money in recent weeks with cost-cutting measures.
Examples of these include asking Man City to give a ride to Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho to the Ballon d'Or ceremony while also cutting ties with Sir Alex Ferguson as an ambassador.
