I think we’d all feel this way tbh
A guest on Antiques Roadshow has captured the hearts of the internet after being moved to tears over his Rolex watch he bought for just £132.
Richard Price, who presents as an expert on the BBC show, left the guest shocked over the staggering profit he could make on his watch.
However, the watch belonged to the guest’s late father, as he explained on the show: “It was my dad’s watch. He bought it for himself in 1972 when I was seven and me, my mum, my dad and my brother went to Birmingham to buy it.
“My dad passed away in October and he gave it to me a couple of months before he passed away. It means absolutely everything to me. It’s part of my dad. It’s a very, very special watch that is and it will be forever.”
After inspecting the watch, Price informed the guest that the Rolex was in fact a genuine vintage Submariners watch which had been introduced as part of Rolex’s suite of products in 1967.
The watch carries the word ‘submariner’ in Red, something which only happened at the beginning of the watch’s run, which is apparently part what makes the watch so valuable.
Price explained: “Watch collectors, particularly Rolex, are pedantic and within that ten-year period, this watch was made with six different types of dial. But the important thing to see is that yours has feet first – the first three dials, it was metres first and we refer to those as marks one, two and three.”
However, this watch was mark four, which means it was among the first of its kind with all three dials feet first.
It was precisely this feature which resulted in a valuation of the watch of a whopping £20,000.
Quite understandably, the guest was lost for words and was moved to tears at the price tag.
Price called the watch a great inheritance for the family, one which the guest was going to keep forever.
