Ange Postecoglou slams his own player in post-match interview

Jacob Entwistle

The Spurs boss did not mince his words after the 1-1 draw at Rangers.

Ange Postecoglou has spoken out on one of his player’s performance following the 1-1 draw at Rangers on Thursday night.

The home side took the lead in the 47th minute through a goal from Hamza Igamane, before Dejan Kulusevski scored his second goal of the week to spare the Premier League side’s blushes.

The result leaves both sides locked on 11 points in 8th and 9th in the table – with Rangers above Spurs on goal difference.

However, the performance of a certain player did not go unnoticed as he was substituted at half-time by the angry gaffer.

When asked on Timo Werner’s performance and the decision to take him off at half-time, Postecoglou got straight to the point:

“He wasn’t playing anywhere near the level he should.”

Questioned whether he was frustrated with Werner, the Spurs boss then nodded before adding:

“You know when you’ve got 18 year olds, I think it’s not acceptable to me and I said that to Timo.

“He’s a senior international, he’s a German international. You know in the moment we’re in right now, it’s not like we’ve got many options.

“I need everyone to at least be going out there trying to give the best of themselves. His performance in the first-half wasn’t acceptable.”
