Homenews

Two convicted murderers became the first men to ever escape from a 150-year-old maximum security prison, thanks to a Shawshank Redemption-style escape.

Richard Matt and David Sweat made their way out of the Clinton Correctional Facility, in New York State, by drilling a hole through a wall and navigating their way through the building's sewer tunnels. A similar plan was used in 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. happy animated GIF In a press conference, New York governor Andrew Cuomo indicated that the escapees had used power tools which prisoners should not be able to access, in order to carry out their "sophisticated" escape by cutting through steel walls and beams. Cuomo pledged to undertake a "thorough investigation" into the escape, which he described as "an elaborate plot". https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=41&v=rD-8-yLEG6Q
