Air India flight makes emergency landing after bomb threat

The incident happened on Friday

The news comes just a day after an Air India 787 crashed in Ahmedabad killing 241 on board with one survivor.

Troubles continued for the airline on Friday (13 June) when a bomb threat was received on Air India flight AI 379 from Phuket in Thailand to India's capital New Delhi.

The plane, an A320 still in the Vistara livery following the airline's merger with Air India last year, made an emergency landing back in Phuket.

The aircraft took off from Phuket airport bound for the Indian capital at 9.30am (3.30am BST) on Friday, but upon receiving news of the threat, circled around and landed back at the airport according to Flightradar24.

No further details on the bomb threat have been provided and Air India did not immediately respond to a request for comment as reported by Reuters.

Bomb threats are a fairly common occurrence in India, with almost 1,000 hoax calls and messages received in the first 10 months of 2024.

However, it is likely this particular threat could have been taken more seriously due to the circumstances of the terrible accident yesterday.

An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route for London Gatwick Airport has crashed on the perimeters of Ahmedabad Airport in western India.

The plane was carrying 242 people on board including 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national, with the rest being Indian nationals.

Local police had originally said that it appears there are no survivors from the crash, however, one person has confirmed to have miraculously survived the crash.

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, was in seat 11a on the flight and was filmed walking away from the crash site following the incident.
