A gunman has shot a number of people at a cinema in Germany, reports say.

A masked man entered the cinema with a firearm and ammo belt and began opening fire, Reuters have said.

Up to 50 people are believed to have been wounded when the unidentified man opened fire in the Kinoplex in Viernheim.

German police surrounded the complex after the man reportedly barricaded himself into the building, according to the Telegraph.

But special forces stormed the building in the German town, which lies between Frankfurt and Stuttgart, and a man was reportedly shot and killed in the raid.

Conflicting reports coming out of Germany suggest anywhere between 25 and 50 people may have been injured in the attack.

CNN are already referring to it as a ‘terror attack’ although the man believed to be responsible remains unidentified.
