£50m worth of cocaine found washed up on UK beaches

The National Crime Agency has confirmed the discovery of 360kgs of cocaine on a beach in Norfolk.

Valued at up to £50m, a member of the public contacted Norfolk Police after finding a number of holdalls containing the substance had washed up on Hopton beach, near Great Yarmouth. More were also discovered on a nearby beach at Caister. The National Crime Agency has now seized the holdalls and while local police believe all of the packages have been recovered, a search continues in the area. "We are now working with Border Force, the Coastguard Agency and Norfolk Police to try and establish how the bags ended up where they did," Matthew Rivers, from the NCA's border investigation team, told the BBC. "It is extremely unlikely that this was their intended destination. "This is obviously a substantial seizure of class A drugs and its loss will represent a major blow to the organised criminals involved."
