Charlie Sloth invades stage at ARIAS, tells Edith Bowman “F**k ya life” in Kanye West-style rant

It looks like the BBC DJ might have been in his feelings tonight

In a bizarre turn of events, Charlie Sloth, doing his best Kanye West impression, invaded the stage at the ARIAS tonight and told Edith Bowman to “Fuck ya life.”

The Audio & Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) are the Oscars of UK radio and audio, they’re about recognising the talented individuals and teams in the UK audio and radio sector, who excel at their craft and produce the very best body of work in the world.

Nominated in the category for Best Specialist Music Show for 1Xtra’s Rap Show with Charlie Sloth, Charlie lost out to Edith for her show Soundtracking with Edith Bowman.

Unhappy with the decision, Charlie went full-on Kanye West 2009 VMAs on the Leeds crowd when he stormed the stage to interrupt Gemma Atkinson during the announcement of the winner for National Station/Network of the Year.

“Edith Bowman, fuck ya life,” he screamed to everyone in attendance, stating that it was bullshit that Bowman and her show won. Before he left the stage he signed off by saying: “I just wanna say BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Saturday night Rap Show. Fuck ya life. God bless.”

Straight after he left the stage Radio 1 won the award for National Station of the Year. Picking up the award, the station’s Controller Ben Cooper apologised for Charlie Sloth’s behaviour. He told the crowd that Charlie had left the building before adding, “He’ll be leaving Radio 1 and 1Xtra.”

Charlie Sloth had already announced that he was leaving his position as DJ at both Radio 1 and 1Xtra last month, so perhaps he thought he didn’t have anything to lose with tonight’s stage invasion.

Still not 100% on where his new home will be – he fuelled rumours not so long ago that he was joining Apple as part of their Beats 1 team – could tonight’s eruption complicate matters for him moving forward? Only time will tell.
