Toblerone makers explain the reason why they changed their famous triangle-shaped chocolate

It takes a lot to push British people over the edge.

We quietly put up with a lot of shit and say nothing. We form orderly queues and just mutter under our breaths when someone pushes in. But when you start messin' with our chocolate, that's when you cross the line. It happened when Cadbury's new American owners changed the recipe to the iconic Creme Egg. Now the fury of the British people has been unleashed again after another of our favourite chocolate bars has been changed. The distinctive shape and size of the Toblerone bar has been toyed with and people were really not happy. To put this outrage into perspective, more British people were up in arms about this than the outcome of the US Election (which probably has the potential to wipe Toblerones and everything else off the face of the planet.) https://twitter.com/TerrysWineLodge/status/795896381483393028 Fans of the triangle-shaped Swiss chocolate were not happy to see bigger gaps between those chocolatey peaks...and they let makers Mondelez International know about it. But now the company behind everyone's favourite Christmas chocolate bar have come out and explained why the hell this has happened...and it's for our own benefit, apparently. A statement on their website explained that the rising cost of ingredients had forced them to drop the weight of the bars and create that bigger gap to keep them affordable to customers. "Toblerone remains one of the best value and most delicious Swiss chocolate products in the market. "This is because we always work hard to ensure we offer value for money for our consumers, but like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients. "We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products." This reportedly means that Toblerone's 400g bar will now weigh 360g in the UK and similarly the 170g bar will drop to 150g A spokeswoman for Mondolez told the BBC that the foreign exchange rate was currently "not favourable", but added: "This change wasn't done as a result of Brexit."
