Olympic Park announces plans for giant slide (seriously)

When we look back at it a decade from now, what will the legacy of the 2012 London Olympics be? The six gold medals on Super Saturday? West Ham's new stadium? A giant slide?

That last one might not be as ridiculous as it sounds now that Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been granted permission to attach a 178m slide to the ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture. Visitors to the park can appreciate the view from the top of the UK's largest sculpture before taking a shortcut back to the ground. In total, the trip inside the metal tube is expected to take 40 seconds along a winding route, with construction of the slide expected to be finished by spring 2016. orbit slide Orbit slide for web
