Full Monty Working Men’s Club Destroyed by Fire

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said eight fire engines were deployed to the scene by 5.30pm, with footage shared online showing flames tearing through the rooms and spreading onto the roof. The club had twice been the subject of planning applications that were later scrapped, Metro reported.

As crews tackled the blaze, the service urged residents living nearby to stay clear of the area.

“Eight fire engines are in attendance at a fire in a derelict building on Shiregreen Lane, Sheffield. Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed if you live nearby.”

A Full Monty landmark lost

The venue once carried a proud sign reading “Home of The Full Monty”, a nod to the 1997 film about a group of laid-off Sheffield steelworkers who turn to stripping — still ranked among Britain’s best-loved comedy films. A steady decline in trade forced its closure more than eight years ago.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. Crews remained at the site to damp down the building as investigators prepared to assess the damage to one of the city’s most nostalgic landmarks.
