American teen faces bizarre sex charges for taking nude selfies

In a bizarre case in North Carolina, a 16-year-old girl could face prison time for sending a nude selfie to her boyfriend.
The girl from Fayetteville, North Carolina may also have to register as a sex offender should she be convicted. The local justice system perceives her private distribution of her own photograph as unlawful. The warrant for her arrest suggests that she be tried as both the adult perpetrator of the 'crime' AND the child victim. Apparently she is guilty of "disseminating harmful material to minors" - the minor being herself.
The snaps were taken last year, when the defendant was below the local age of consent. According to the Fay Observer, the Sheriff's Office investigates sexting incidents several times a month.
