This scuba dive marriage proposal in the Great Barrier Reef has raised the bar for all of us

An underwater kind of love.

Matt Tate

As marriage proposals go, this is about as spectacular and romantic as it gets.

Jairon Bray, from Las Vegas, Nevada, picked a scuba dive in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef as the ideal spot to pop the question to partner Ashton.

I can’t express enough how amazing it feels to have Ashton Nicole Joseph in my life!!! Here is our scuba diving proposal at the Great Barrier Reef.

As seen in the video posted to his Facebook page, Jairon used a number of laminated sheets of paper to declare his love for Ashton, calling her his ‘superhero’ and saying that he knew ‘from the first smile’ they shared that she was the one.

It was all filmed on GoPro cameras, and is so emotional that we have no idea how they both managed to keep their breathing in order – which is difficult enough to do when you’re scuba diving normally, let alone having to attend to a sudden, life-changing question.

At the end of the card sequence, Jairon asks his potential fiancé to thumbs up if her answer is yes, and luckily for both of them, she immediately obliges. Nobody wants to be rejected in front of all those colourful fish. Jairon then produces an engagement ring and they swim to the surface for a big old kiss.

The video has had over 5,000 views since it was posted earlier this year, and is captioned: “I can’t express enough how amazing it feels to have Ashton Nicole Joseph in my life!!!”

That’ll take some topping. Though we’re pretty sure JOE readers might have a corker of a proposal story or two to share. Send yours to Hello@JOE.co.uk or message us on Facebook.
