A study claims to reveal the age at which men start dad dancing

We all know a proper dad dancer, but does their age match the survey result?

The greatest joy of being a father is meant to be helping bring life into the world, nurturing it and seeing your creation grow up into a functioning adult.

This is poppycock. The greatest joy of being a father is surely the incontestable right to dad dancing. Of course, you don’t have to be a dad in order to be a dad dancer, but it gives you the ultimate licence to do so. No one can laugh at your dance moves when you’re a dad, because that’s exactly how you’re supposed to dance.

So when does dad dancing actually kick in, if not with the birth of your child? A survey from CBeebies show Twirlywoos has found that men become dad dancers at the age of 37. The research found that this is the age when dads (or men in general) lose their inhibitions about dancing and just decide to go for it, hence the terrible dance moves.

The survey of 2,000 adults was commissioned to launch Twirlywoos Dad Dancer of the Year competition.

“We believe dad dancing should be celebrated, because just like the Twirlywoos, it is silly, fun and full of surprises,” a spokesperson for Twirlywoos said.

“As part of our search for Dad Dancer of the Year, we’re calling on families across the country to submit footage of their fathers, young and old, busting some moves on the dance floor. Whether on their own or with their partner or children, we cannot wait to see footage of groovy grandads, and disco dads.”

If you know someone with a penchant for dad dancing and think they could have a crack at it, you can enter the competition here.

If you know someone with a penchant for dad dancing and never want their moves to see the light of day, maybe don’t tell them about this.
