It is not just a relic of the past

HIV / AIDS is still considered a global epidemic by the World Health Organisation. In 2018, 37.9 million people were still living with the HIV worldwide. Around 60 per cent of new infections occur in sub-Saharan Africa. In the UK and US we view it as a distant crisis, but many members of the scientific and LGBT communities will never forget the horrific peak of the 1980s. JOE spoke to campaigners, an epidemiologist and AIDS survivor.
