72-year-old Sylvester Stallone is still smashing the gym in preparation for Rambo 5

Wil Jones

He’s old enough to be your grandad, and he’s more ripped than you’ll ever be

Sylvester Stallone is 72-years-old. Let that sink in. Rocky was 42 years ago. First Blood was 35 years ago. Demolition Man was 25 years ago.

But the Italian Stallion is still going strong. He was Oscar-nominated in 2015 for reprising the role Rocky Balboa in Creed, and he will return as the boxer for the eighth time this year for the sequel.

That’s not all he’s got on the horizon though. After many rumours and false starts, it looks like Rambo V is actually happening. An Instagram post from May revealed that Sly intends the movie to hit cinemas late next year, and shooting is set to take place in London, Bulgaria, and the Canary Islands.

And Stallone isn’t wasting any time getting back into shape. He’s posted a video of him going hard in the gym, in a John Rambo shirt.

He looks to be in incredible shape, especially for a septuagenarian.

John Rambo first appeared in the novel First Blood, by David Morrell. That was adapted into the film of the same name in 1982, with Sylvester Stallone playing the troubled Vietnam veteran. But whereas Morrell’s novel featured Rambo dying at the end, the movie let him survive, and he was brought back for a series of increasingly ludicrous sequels: 1985’s Rambo: First Blood Part II, 1988’s Rambo III, and 2008’s belated, and confusingly titled, Rambo.

At one point, Rambo V was meant to be about John Rambo chasing a werewolf. We still want that to happen tbh.
