Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Now the Sixth Biggest Film of All Time

Where Brand New Day now sits on the all-time chart

The Force Awakens drops to seventh on $2.07 billion. Ahead of the Tom Holland film sit Titanic in fifth on $2.26 billion and Ne Zha 2 in fourth on $2.27 billion, both now within touching distance. Domestically the picture is just as striking: a running total of $854.9 million through Sunday takes it past 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home and into third on the all-time North American chart. It had already become Sony's biggest global release a week earlier.

Spidey held off two newcomers, and the film directly behind it is a Sony release too. Insidious: Out of the Further opened second with $25.3 million from 3,330 North American cinemas, taking the horror franchise past $800 million in total and landing a C+ CinemaScore, matching 2023's Insidious: The Red Door as the series' lowest grade. Lionsgate's Jason Statham action-thriller Mutiny and Black Bear's comedy Spa Weekend placed much lower down the chart.

With no major studio horror release for the next four weeks, Insidious has a clear run. For Sony, the question is how much higher Brand New Day can climb before autumn: a strong few weeks would put fourth place in reach, in a year that has already delivered a $1.35 billion haul for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.
