“I felt like I was going to pop a vein because I was crying so much.”
Star Wars star Daisy Ridley has spoken about how emotional the last day of shooting The Rise of Skywalker was, saying she cried her eyes out when the cameras stopped rolling.
“When we wrapped [The Rise of Skywalker] I wept all day,” she told People magazine. “I felt like I was going to pop a vein because I was crying so much.”
“Obviously not to say that it was like grieving, but it was grieving something,” she continued. “I’ll always have it, and we’re all bonded by this incredible thing.”
Daisy Ridley was a virtual unknown when she was cast as Rey in The Force Awakens, the first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
The character was the focal point of the new trilogy, alongside John Boyega’s Finn, Iscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. She was introduced as an orphan who is mysteriously talented with the Force, though seemingly unconnected to any characters we had met before. However, in The Rise of Skywalker it was retconned to reveal that she is actually the granddaughter of the resurrected Emperor Palpatine.
The third film concluded her saga, with her taking the Skywalker name, and Ridley has said she is unlikely to return to the role.
She recently told IGN: “I think for me the beauty of Episode IX is it ends with such hope and such potential. I just feel like that was Rey’s perfect ending. The big battle was in Episodes VII, VIII, and IX. I think really she’s probably running around the forest somewhere having a great time. I feel totally, totally satisfied with how that story finished.”
Rey did pop up in The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, not voiced by Daisy Ridley, but that was almost definitely non-canonical.
