Women’s charity tells Love Island producers to watch for ‘abusive behaviour’ following Adam Collard’s return

The 26-year-old promised to ‘ruffle feathers’ on his return to the villa

Adam Collard made a shock return to the Love Island villa on Monday night and wasted no time getting to know the other contestants.

The 26-year-old Geordie promised to ‘step on toes’ as he set his sights on Ekin-Su and Paige.

He even pulled Michael Owen’s daughter Gemma for a chat that was timed perfectly to coincide with the boy’s return from their R&R day out.

Diehard fans of the ITV2 series will remember the drama Newcastle PT Adam caused back in 2018, when he broke a few hearts during his stint in the villa.

He famously had a very heated clash with Rosie Williams, after she was left appalled by the way he treated her, as viewers were thoroughly gripped by the tense scenes.

At the time, Katie Ghose, the Chief Executive of charity Women’s Aid, appeared on This Morning to call Adam’s behaviour out, describing it as “emotional abuse”.

Ahead of his return to the villa, the charity has made renewed calls to producers to watch out for any “abusive behaviour”.

In a statement to Metro.co.uk, Teresa Parker, head of communications and media relations, said: “In the 2018 series of Love Island, we saw Rosie rightly call out Adam for his unacceptable behaviour, which included gaslighting and emotional abuse.

“We hope that ITV recognise how serious this issue is and that it must be learned from, considering they have asked Adam to return to the show.”

Parker added: “Love Island is watched by many young people and we know what a huge influence it has.

“Producers must make sure there is support for contestants throughout, and intervene if relationships become unhealthy or abusive.”
