Will Smith has revealed the actor who will play the same role he made famous for the reboot of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

While on a video call together, Smith surprised up-and-coming actor Jabari Banks and gave him the good news.

“It is an absolute pleasure to meet you, to be on with you, and from the deepest parts of my heart I want to say congratulations to you,” Smith said.

“You have the role of Will on Bel-Air.”

Banks span around on his chair before replying: “I’m ready, I’m so ready.”

Banks revealed that his father sent him an article about the audition, and so he contacted his agent to get a spot.

“This is a dream come true,” Banks continued. “Thank you so much, I’m so grateful. This is incredible.

“You don’t know. Well, you probably do know. You can feel it…The way the show has impacted me and my life, it’s incredible to hear you say that.”

The Fresh Prince arguably kick-started Will Smith’s acting career and led to roles in movies like Men in Black, Alladin, Suicide Squad, Bad Boys, Hancock, and I am Legend to name but a few.

The reboot, from NBC streaming service Peacock, is based on Morgan Cooper’s 2019 viral spec trailer Bel-air.

It is reportedly a modern-day take on the original, with the producers describing it as a serialised one-hour ‘dramatic analogue’.

Writer Chris Collins has previously worked on films like John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and TV series like Sons of Anarchy. Peacock gave the show a two-season order back in September last year, but more details are currently scarce.
