New mystery thriller series streaming now looks like must-see for Bad Sisters fans

While the Garvey sisters will be back on screens next month, this new darkly comic mystery should fill the void until their return.

Fans of the Irish hit series Bad Sisters will have to wait until 13 November next month for its second season.

That said, its streaming service, Apple TV+, has just added a new show that is earning comparisons to the Sharon Horgan-starring modern classic.

This is the darkly comic mystery thriller Where’s Wanda?, the streaming giant’s first German-language series.

Starring Heike Makatsch (Love Actually, Resident Evil), it tells the story of two parents named Dedo and Carlotta Klatt who are desperate to locate their missing 17-year-old daughter Wanda that disappeared months ago without a trace.

“When the police fail to find her, the family takes matters into their own hands, obtaining surveillance devices with the help of their tech-savvy son Ole,” the plot synopsis reads.

“Disguising themselves as employees of an electrical company, they bug their neighbourhood and then half their suburb, finding out that behind closed doors, none of their neighbours are who they pretend to be.”

While it may not sound like a premise ripe for humour, reviews for Where’s Wanda? for the most part have been positive.

In particular, its compelling story and mix of emotion, humour and thrills – as well as the fact that it is on Apple TV+ – have led some critics to draw comparisons between it and Bad Sisters.

You can read a sample of some of these write-ups below:

Absolute Geeks: “The show’s unique blend of genres, coupled with its intriguing mystery and technological elements, will keep viewers hooked.”

Decider: “Where’s Wanda? somehow manages to balance the dramatic and comedic aspects of its story, mainly because of the same reason we cite for all of our favourite comedies: The comedy relies on the characters instead of gags, and the Klatts are funny because they’re in such pain, not despite the extreme circumstances they face.”

The Guardian: “This knotty crime thriller has all the dark humour of Bad Sisters.”

Movies and Munchies: “The show presents an easy but engaging watch that should keep you guessing.”

The first two episodes of Where’s Wanda? are streaming now on Apple TV+.

The rest of its eight-episode series will drop weekly on the streamer on Wednesdays.
