A clear return to Season 1. YES!

Finding anyone who will argue that Season 2 of True Detective was better than the adventures of Hart and Cohle is harder than catching The Yellow King.

Despite the fact that Season 2 of the show did have some memorable moments – the shootout on the street, the orgy sequence and Colin Farrell’s performance being the obvious ones – there’s no denying that it suffered from the rift between director Cary Fukunaga and creator Nic Pizzolatto.

Everything we’ve heard about Season 3 of the crime series has given us hope, however and honestly, we’re pumped because when True Detective is good, there are very few shows that can rival it.

Five words – tracking shot over the fence.

As stated previously, Season 3 will be going back to the formula of what made the show so beloved and the first trailer is extremely promising.

In just 71 seconds of footage, it’s clear that the creators are using the same colour palette, costume design and shifting timelines that were so popular in Season 1.

More importantly, we’re also treated to the same creepy rural/farming setting that defined the gothic mystery of the very first season.

Aside from this, the theme that the sins of the past will always catch up with you is also very prominent here.

In terms of the plot, Oscar-winning Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) will be playing the lead alongside Stephen Dorff.

Season 3 will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.

Dorff plays Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator who, along with his partner, has his life and career influenced over three decades by a baffling crime. Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from northwest Arkansas, with Fisher playing his son.

January 2019, folks. January 2019.
