There's a patch on my head

The new trailer for Toy Story 5 has been praised for normalising male baldness after featuring Woody with a bald patch.

The latest Toy Story trailer landed last week and it's certainly got people talking as the protagonists take on modern technology in their latest adventure.

The trailer shows the classic characters going face to face with an electronic tablet which comes to life like the toys, but can do it all.

Of course the electric device takes all the attention of Bonnie, to the chagrin of the classic toys, leading action being taken.

In the trailer, we get treated to the return of fan-favourite Woody, who, after all these years, returns with a shiny bald patch on his head.

This is of course a nod to the amount of time which has passed since the first Toy Story in 1995 as well as the modern themes of male baldness.

Speaking to Metro, NHS GP and cosmetic dermatologist, Dr Anatalia Moore, said: "It might seem like a tiny detail, but showing a character with thinning or balding hair in a big family film is actually really meaningful, and I think it’s a great step forward for the film industry.

"Hair loss is incredibly common in men, yet it is still something many struggle to talk about openly."

She went on to say that people often "underestimate" the emotional impact of going bald seeing as hair is closely linked to confidence and identity.

This has never been more true with more and more people opening up about hair loss as well as hair transplants on the rise.

Moore said that this "is why moments like Woody’s hair in the new Toy Story film matter, especially for children."

"When young audiences see characters who are not perfectly polished, it helps normalise the reality that bodies change, and ageing is nothing to be embarrassed about."
