The dream is over, but a new one is just beginning.
England did us proud this week. No shame in going out in a semi-final. The boys can come home with their heads held high, safe in the knowledge that, while they didn’t win, they restored our faith in the English game. They are winners in our hearts.
Now as for you, Pub Quizzer, you will receive no such leniency. We want to see high scores. Don’t think you can slink off home with a meagre 13/25 and call yourself a hero. You’re not Gareth Southgate, take off the waistcoat. Waistcoats are for winners.
