The great Tom Hardy makes his long-awaited return to Peaky Blinders this week

“Fucking hell, it smells of pig round here, don’t it?”

Peaky Blinders fans in the middle of watching an already excellent Season Four will be given an extra boost by the news that Alfie Solomons, played by the one and only Tom Hardy, will return to the show in this week’s episode.

Footage released by the BBC on Monday shows Solomons arriving at Small Heath to be greeted by empty streets and silence, which he interrupts in typically no-nonsense fashion in order to gain Tommy’s attention.

Alfie was last seen in Peaky Blinders in Season Three, when he collaborated with Tommy over the sale of Faberge eggs, a collaboration that also led to Tommy pointing a gun at his head, a scrap between the pair and Arthur shooting Alfie’s bodyguard.

What this season has in store for Alfie remains to be seen, but speaking to Digital Spy earlier last month, show creator Steven Knight said he has “quite a bumpy road ahead of him”.

“Once again, he’s going to be a friend and an enemy,” Knight said.

“You can’t trust him, but you can trust him to behave like Alfie Solomons! And of course, Tom loves the role, and he really throws himself into it.

“It’s just brilliant to have that presence in the series. But yeah, he’s a big part of the series.”

The latest episode of Peaky Blinders, Dangerous, airs on BBC 2 on Wednesday at 9pm.
