Tarantino’s producer to turn Call Of Duty games into Marvel-esque series of movies

Exciting...

Since it was first release in 2003, the Call Of Duty games have been an annual tentpole release for every console they’ve been playable on.

Thirteen full releases, over 250 million copies sold, and over $15 billion in profits, it is fair to say that people quite seem to playing them.

They would also seem like a great and obvious subject for a movie adaptation, but we’ve said that before about Resident Evil, Prince Of Persia, Silent Hill, Assassin’s Creed, Warcraft and countless others, and we’ve burned time and time again.

So in an attempt not to make the same mistakes as other film companies, the games’ makers Activision Blizzard have set up Activision Blizzard Studios, a new production wing which has been solely created to make films and TV shows out of their games.

On top of that, they’ve put Stacey Sher in charge as the head of production for the studio.

Sher has been nominated for two Oscars, and was a producer for Tarantino’s movies Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained, and was also the producer on the likes of Matilda, World Trade Centre and Out Of Sight, so she’s got a hugely impressive CV behind her.

And she’s got HUGE plans for the Call Of Duty series.

Speaking to The Guardian, Sher stated: “We have plotted out many years. We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops, the story behind the story. The Modern Warfare series looks at what it’s like to fight a war with the eyes of the world on you.”

“And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on.”

“It’s going to have the same sort of high-adrenaline, high-energy aesthetic as the game, but it’s not a literal adaptation. It’s a much more broad and inclusive, global in scope … a big, tentpole Marvel-esque movie.”

No word yet on who these writers are exactly, but we should probably expect a slew of writer, director and star announcements as each of the movies heads into production.

We imagine Sher could have some sway and get Tarantino to potentially write and/or direct one of the entries. Can you imagine how awesome that might be?

And you’ll remember Kevin Spacey already had a major role in one the Call Of Duty games, so getting him involved in a movie of the game doesn’t seem like to far of a jump for us.
