Sharp Corner, one of JOE's favourite thrillers of 2025 so far, has been quietly made available to watch at home.
Streaming via NOW and Sky, the movie is set in Canada and follows married couple, Josh (Ben Foster, Hell or High Water) and Rachel (Cobie Smulders, How I Met Your Mother), as they move into a new house with their young child.
While it at first seems like the perfect home to start their family, the parents discover to their horror that their property is situated on a sharp corner that is prone to severe car accidents.
Upon learning this, Rachel wishes to move to another house. However, Josh - already struggling with the pressures of daily life - becomes unhealthily fixated on these crashes, believing that it is his responsibility to save the victims.
JOE was lucky enough to catch an advance screening of Sharp Corner at this year's Dublin International Film Festival back in February.
And we haven't been able to stop thinking about it since, with writer-director Jason Buxton and star Foster painting a very believable if darkly comic portrait of a seemingly ordinary man becoming engulfed by a strange, sinister obsession.
Also, given the premise, anytime the viewer hears a car in the distance of a scene, you are immediately on edge that a crash may occur - a tension Buxton capitalises on for maximum effect throughout the thriller's 110-minute running time.
Holding a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, you can read a sample of some other positive reviews for Sharp Corner below:
The Guardian: "While some of Buxton’s writing can be a little blunt… we’re kept firmly in his grip because, like a car crash itself, we can’t stop staring at how horrifying it is and we’re curious to see how much worse it might get."
Mashable: "A smart premise is poignantly brought to life by Foster and Smulders, making for a psychological thriller that is nerve-rattlingly tense and a family drama that is unapologetically gutting."
The Only Critic: "Some might describe it as a pseudo-cousin to Cronenberg’s Crash, though I'd be more apt to say this is Foster’s Nightcrawler."
Screen International: "The film does not give up its mysteries easily, but some fine performances and a carefully maintained tone keep viewers riveted -- all in the name of a disquieting exploration of how people find scraps of meaning in their empty lives."
Variety: "This is an increasingly nerve-wracking fable about the lengths men, whose lives are placid if just merely pleasant, will go to make themselves feel needed and validated."
Sharp Corner is currently available to watch in the UK and Ireland via NOW and Sky.
