Rylan Clark reveals hospitalisation with two heart failures after marriage breakdown

‘It was like my body shut down’

Rylan Clark has spoken about how he suffered two heart failures following the breakdown of his marriage.

The television and radio star split from his husband Dan Neal last year after six years together, and has bravely revealed the toll it took on him physically and emotionally.

Speaking at his event ‘An Evening With Rylan Clark,’ he explained to the audience that there were “weeks that I couldn’t speak.”

He continued: “That sounds ridiculous because I can talk for England. My mum was genuinely concerned at one point that I’d had a stroke.

“It was like my body had shut down. Twice last year I ended up back in an ambulance because my heart had failed and it was really strange because I just remember for a couple of weeks going ‘My heart hurts.'”

Rylan added that, compared to a normal resting heart rate of 60 to 120 beats per minute, his was 248, the Metro reports.

“My heart had to be restarted. I just remember lying in re-sus, because I had these pads on with all these wires, and not understanding what it was,” he said.

The 33-year-old, who rose to fame after appearing on the X Factor in 2012 and has since forged a hugely successful career in TV and radio, said that he shut himself off to those around him after his split from Neal.

But he has not “given up” on finding love, and has learned a lot from the difficult period.

He explained: “The one thing I was most frightened of was being on my own.

“And I know that sounds really strange because I can just go on Instagram or Twitter and speak to a million and a half of you at any one time. But I think I was so frightened of being alone that I think that’s what contributed to my downfall and my spiral that I was in.

“But I’ve actually learnt to be alright on my own and I think that was a really important lesson to learn at the age of 33.”

He is set to release a tell-all book, titled ‘TEN: The Decade That Changed My Future’, in which he reflects on his career and personal life.

Announcing the book back in March, he said: “We all know I should have lasted ten minutes, so how I’ve lasted ten years, I’ll never know. Learned so many lessons, especially in the last year but it’s been a journey, and I can’t wait to share it with you very soon.”
