Ross Kemp got stung by a load of wasps and now his lips are twice the size

Wil Jones

“I look like Mick Jagger, don’t I?”

Ross Kemp is a tough man. Not only did he portray the hardest man in soap history, he has also travelled the world making hard hitting documentaries with some of the world’s most dangerous people.

(And that episode of Extras was just fiction, ok.)

However, the man most famous for playing Grant Mitchell in EastEnders has shared a video of him suffering one of life’s most painful experiences: getting stung by a wasp. In fact, not just one wasp, but several.

Kemps says he was “stung by about three or four wasps in the nasal and lip area” while going into his attic. He also reckoned he looked like Mick Jagger, as his lip was massively swelling to twice the size.

He then shared another clip of him after receiving treatment, saying he’d got a shot of cortisone, and also expressed his love for the NHS.

A final video showed him safe at home, with the swelling thankfully going down.

“I’m still like a massive botox victim,” deadpanned Kemp, “but that just goes to show what happens if you mess with nature. I had no idea when I was opening that hatch there was actually a wasp’s nest on top of it. I’m very lucky that they only stung me around my nose, in my nose, and my top lip. It could have been far worse.”

“But thank you very much, again, you lovely, lovely NHS.”

Kemp clearly has a sense of humour about it, as he shared this poster someone knocked up for his potential next documentary series.

We would totally watch this. Maybe Ross Kemp could be shrunk down to insect-size, and then venture into the wasp’s nest with a film crew. Once in, he would embed with a group of young, dangerous wasps, following them as they go on raids to disrupt picnics and chase cans of Coke, while Kemp slowly gets them to open up about their difficult upbringings.
