Rebooted Robot Wars gets second series green light

The Craig Charles-shaped hole was impossible to ignore, but other than that we think you’ll agree that the Robot Wars revival was a huge success.

Highlights? Well there was Foxic, officially the best, worst robot ever. And how could we forget mighty Apollo, the heavyweight rookie that stunned the Glasgow studio by flipping not one, not two, but three of the notorious house robots and finished the show as champion?

Yep, it was great to have the country’s elite nerds bringing their metal-crushing carnage back to prime-time TV, and we have good news: a second run of episodes has been confirmed.

Series two will bring on a new batch of contestants hungry to seize Apollo’s crown. Hosts Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon will return to cast a watchful eye or two over the inevitable chaos, and while it’s not been officially confirmed as yet, we’re going to stick our necks out and predict that Jonathan Pearce – easily as passionate about robots ripping one another to shreds as he’s ever been about football  – will be recalled for commentary duties.

Channel controller Patrick Holland said: “Robot Wars is a brilliant BBC2 show, full of passion, specialism and spectacle.

“I am delighted that Dara and Angela will be once again challenging Britain’s finest robot builders to take on the dreaded House Robots.”
