The mid-1990s was a simpler time. There was no pandemic, no social media and The Simpsons was at the height of its powers, having not yet entered the terminal decline which is still ongoing to this day. In 1995, the show was so popular and influential that it had the confidence to put together a two-part murder mystery spaced out over four months. The mystery as to who in fact shot Mr. Burns served as the finale to Season 6 and wasn’t solved until the first episode of season 7, a time when The Simpsons could do little wrong. And boy did they pull it off. In the pre-Internet era, there was a genuine sense of anticipation about the big reveal, with a small band of in-the-know Simpsons creators creating alternate endings and even keeping Simpsons staff out of the loop right up to the last minute in order to keep the identity of the shooter a secret. Spoiler alert: It was Maggie. To mark the 25th anniversary of the second and concluding episode of Who Shot Mr. Burns this week, we’ve put together a short quiz recounting some of the main events of two of the show’s best ever episodes.
