Hellbound is most watched Netflix show

A violent and disturbing South Korean television series sits top of the Netflix charts…. but it’s not Squid Game

Hellbound has knocked Squid Game off of Netflix’s number one spot, topping the charts in more than 80 countries since it hit the platform on November 19.

According to FlixPatrol analytics, the fantasy-horror series became the world’s most watched Netflix television series on November 20.

The series, which is directed by Yeon Sang-ho, follows the violent actions of a group of demons who hunt down people who have sinned and sends them to hell – by incinerating them.

This prompts public hysteria and even more violence and chaos.

It looks like critics are loving Hellbound, with the series boasting a perfect score on the reviewing site Rotten Tomatoes.

Squid Game took the world by storm earlier this year, spending 46 non-consecutive days at the top spot on the streaming service and becoming Netflix’s most watched show ever.

An estimated 142 million households in 94 countries watched the dystopian series in October and the series generated an estimated $900m for Netflix.

As a result of its huge success, Squid Game‘s director and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed earlier this month that he would be making a second series of the show.
