Exclusive: New critically-acclaimed film is being called the new Napoleon Dynamite

George McKay

This looks so good

A trailer has dropped for a new critically-acclaimed comedy film Dinner in America, and it’s safe to say it looks rather exciting.

The film, which premiers on ARROW on June 1st, is being billed as a mixture between Heathers and Napoleon Dynamite and we can certainly see the connection.

Watch the new trailer, exclusively with JOE, here:

The film centres on Patty (Emily Skeggs, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Mile 22), a socially awkward teenager who runs into her punk idol Simon (Kyle Gallner, Jennifer’s Body, The Cleansing Hour) before the two of them get into a series of scrapes which ultimately forges a bond between the two.

The film has garnered positive reviews from critics, with The Guardian saying the two central lead performances are the stand out in this likeable indie dramedy.

The Hollywood News said in their five-star review:

Dinner in America is an assault to the senses that really captures the attitude of punk-rock whilst at the same time crafting a quirky tale of love and self-empowerment. A joyously dark-hearted journey through suburban America that taps into the magic of films like Heathers, injects them with the spirit of punk rock and creates an instant hit that has the potential to shape a generation. In short, it’s the tits.

This looks like it has all the makings of a cult classic like Napoleon Dynamite, with the misfit punk element of Heathers, and the Bonnie and Clyde sensibilities of End of the F***ing World. Safe to say it’s going to be worth a watch.

DINNER IN AMERICA is streaming on ARROW and available to buy or rent on all
digital platforms in the UK from 1st June
