Meghan Markle reflects on close relationship with ‘grandmother figure’ the Queen

She said she was 'so grateful' for their relationship

In the fourth episode of Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex reflects on the relationship she had with Harry's grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. She told the cameras: "I treated her as my husband’s grandma, and knowing that of course there has to be a completely different sense of propriety in public, when you’re sitting and having breakfast to just be able to talk." The Suits star went on to reflect on one memory she has with the Queen where they travelled together. She said: "When we got into the car in between engagements she had a blanket and she put it over my knees. And we were sitting in this car with this blanket and I thought, ‘I recognise and respect and see that you’re the Queen, but in this moment I’m so grateful that there is a grandmother figure because that feels like family'." Meghan spoke about how having a grandmotherly figure mattered to her, especially as she had a close bond with her own grandmother, and looked after her in her later years. Elsewhere in the episode, Harry reflects on how after they moved to Canada, his grandmother invited them both over for tea. However, he was later told that this was not possible as the Queen was busy with other engagements. Meghan reiterated that this message was "the opposite" of what the Queen had told them. "I remember looking at H," she said. "This is when a family and a family business are in direct conflict. They are blocking you from seeing the Queen but what they are really doing is blocking a grandson from seeing his grandmother."
