It's easy to imagine the Making A Murderer trial is happening in real time, but Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey were arrested 11 and 10 years ago respectively.
Avery was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for the murder of Teresa Halbach on October 31, 2005, while Dassey was sentenced to life in prison with eligibility for parole in 2048.
But following the popularity of the Making A Murderer series on Netflix, the pair have received newfound attention and Dassey has now seen his conviction overturned.
On August 12, US Magistrate Judge William E. Duffin announced that Dassey would be released from custody within 90 days unless the state decided to re-try Dassey on the grounds that his confession was involuntary and unconstitutionally coerced.
While it is no doubt a massive relief to Dassey and the rest of his family, the fact remains that at the time of his arrest, he was only 16 and has now spent most of the last decade in prison. It would be enough to change anyone.
His cousin, Carla Chase tweeted a picture of him back in January and the 26-year-old looks decidedly different.

Hopefully now he can begin to lead a normal life.
We wait to hear about any more updates on Steven Avery's case, as the creators of Making A Murderer have confirmed that they are working on new episodes.
