Love Island winners

After two months in the villa, the winning couple has been revealed in Monday’s live final…

Liam and Millie have been crowned the winners of Love Island 2021, bringing down the curtain on the seventh series of the reality TV show.

The duo were the bookies favourites for the final and were voted the winners by the public, beating three other couples to the title. Toby and Chloe, who officially became boyfriend and girlfriend on the final day, finished in second, with Teddy and Faye finishing third and Tyler and Kaz coming in fourth.

And in a predictable but heartwarming conclusion, Liam and Millie decided to split the £50,000 prize money between them, with Millie opting to share the money with Liam.

The final saw the couples given salsa lessons by professionals, before they had a chance to put their new dancing skills to the test as the islanders put on their finest gladrags and party clothes for the Love Island Summer Ball.

Tyler and Kaz were the first couple to be eliminated in the public vote, closely followed by Teddy and Faye.

This then left Gavin and Stacey wannabes Liam and Millie up against the hyperactive toddlers Toby and Chloe, and it was Welsh x Essex combo who came out on top, ending 58 days of villa antics.

58 days. England hadn’t even beaten Germany at Wembley when the series began.

Despite periods when the series had seemed to be pretty dry, the show has managed to grab the attention of the nation for a summer once more, although show bosses may have Toby to thank for that.

Each of the couples have had their rocky moments over the past two months, with Casa Amor really setting off fireworks in the villa this year (anyone else remember Lillie?).

The series has also attracted its fair share of criticism and controversy, with episodes being hit with thousands of complaints and concerns raised over contestant welfare.

But overall it’s been another successful summer in the villa for ITV, and no one can begrudge Liam and Millie their victory.

So that’s it, another series done, ticked off, and consigned to the annals of history. Liam and Millie are Love Island champions, joining the likes of Paige and Finn, Amber and that guy, Dani and Jack and…. the others.

The question now is which of the contestants will we see frequenting the hometown clubs of the UK, which ones will be given the Boohoo/PrettyLittleThing deals, and which ones will float off into the peaceful obscurity of everyday life once more.

No matter what post-villa life has in store, the best of luck to them all.
