Another one …
Dahmer has been trending on social media ever since Netflix dropped their latest series, ‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’, a dramatization of his life and crimes which stars Evan Peters as Dahmer.
Also known as the ‘Milwaukee Cannibal’ or the ‘Milwaukee Monster’, Dahmer killed and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He also reportedly ate parts of his victims, who he would lure back to his apartment before killing them.
Artists and rappers, have been finding themselves in hot water for lyrics mentioning the serial killer.
Now, it’s Kesha’s turn as her 2010 song Cannibal is currently being dragged on social media for its lyrics, with many calling Kesha’s songwriting ‘insensitive’ in light of the Netflix series’ release last week.
Kesha wrote the song with Pebe Sebert, Joshua Coleman and Mathieu Jomphe, and although the track didn’t do particularly when it first came out, TikTok has given it new life after it became a sound.
The lyrics sing: “Your little heart goes pitter-patter, I want your liver on a platter.
“Be too sweet and you’ll be a goner, yeah, I’ll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer. I eat boys up, breakfast and lunch, then when I’m thirsty, I drink their blood.
“Carnivore, animal, I am a cannibal. I eat boys up, you better run.”
The track’s currently a hot topic on Twitter, with many people admitting they didn’t understand the Dahmer reference back in 2010:
nah bc all these tik toks got me remembering when i was singing that kesha song bc i used to love kesha and it was like “eat your heart out like jeffrey dahmer ” and my mom like was screaming at me and i deadass didn’t know who he was bc i was like 12🫠 pic.twitter.com/qENIaWkavI

People really tryna cancel Katy Perry, Kesha, and juicy j for a lyric said back in the early 2010s because it contained “Jeffery Dahmer” lmfaoo – why weren’t you mad back then? Oh because Netflix finally brought you aware of who he is? Jesus. Anything to stir the pot

JOE has contacted reps for Kesha for a comment.
This comes after people were criticising Katy Perry for a lyric in her song ‘Dark Horse’ that mentions the killer.
Since the release of the Netflix series, music fans have criticised Katy Perry for a lyric in her 2013 track ‘Dark Horse’ which makes reference to Dahmer and his crimes.
Despite being released almost 10 years ago, people are now pointing out how one line rapped by Juicy J, who features on the track, could be seen as problematic.
In his verse, Juicy J clearly references Dahmer and his crimes with the line: “She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer (whoa!).”
Some have labelled it “disrespectful” and “vile.”
Wikipedia lists almost 60 songs that mention Dahmer, with the likes of Eminem, Phoebe Bridgers, Nicki Minaj and the Manic Street Preachers all referencing the serial killer in their tracks.
… you know jeffree dahmer is literally one of the most referenced criminals in pop & hip hop music, right? dark horse by katy perry & juicy j also name dropped him and that went #1 in 2014. like… it’s been so normalized for decades now that this naive tweet is funny to me https://t.co/uL9GU1NXwk pic.twitter.com/Q6XVapjiPa
