The working title looks to be Joker: Folie à Deux
Joaquin Phoenix has been pictured reading the script to Joker 2, which has essentially confirmed that Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime is coming back to the screen.
Despite the first film being well received by both critics and fans, with many dubbing it “cinema” and not simply a film, news of a sequel has been scarce since its 2019 release.

However filmmaker Todd Phillips recently shared a shot on Instagram, complete with a script cover and his 47-year-old front man. In the second shot, Phoenix is seen reading the script with a cigarette in his mouth.
The working title looks to be, Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates to Madness for Two. Could this mean the Joker is looking to share his madness? But with whom? If only there was a slightly deranged former psychiatrist with an interest in bad men…

The post has since received nearly 200k likes, with many fans sharing their excitement in the comments.
TikTok star Josh Richards commented with a flame emoji, while actor Simon Rex wrote: “I zoomed in on the script and I see my cameo you wrote me. Thanks man. I’ll see if I’m avail.”
Am I the only one who doesn’t want a sequel? The first one was so good I’m afraid the sequel will ruin the magic if it isn’t as good. Plus the first one was made as a fine stand alone film. https://t.co/ciKhzLUNvV

No other details have been released at the time of writing.
Reacting to the monumental news, one fan wrote: “It is rare for a sequel to hold a candle to its predecessor. Will it be Blade Runner 2049 great? Or RoboCop 2 terrible? Maybe it will land in the middle.”
However not everyone is sold, as one person said: “Oh, yawn. The sequel we didn’t need.”

“Never should’ve made a sequel, the first movie was perfect at where it left off,” another said.
