A pair of Winter Olympic figure skaters stunned viewers – and judges – when they performed a routine dressed as Batman villains the Joker and Harley Quinn.

German skaters Tim Dieck and Katharina Mueller took to the ice in Beijing on Friday, soundtracked by Britney Spears’ classic track “Toxic” and launched into a routine based on the popular DC Comics baddies.

Dressed in cosplay outfits that included a shimmering purple jacket for Dieck and a top with the name ‘Quinn’ written over it for Mueller – they wasted no time starting their dance which began with the former pretending to slash the latter’s neck.

Needless to say, the judges weren’t impressed.

After their erm… unique… routine came to an end, the powers-that-be dished out a paltry score of just 63.21 – the lowest of all the 10 teams that took part in this rhythmic dance event.

Meanwhile, USA duo Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue came out on top with a score of 86.56.

As you might imagine, it wasn’t just the judges that were left a bit taken aback by this Dark Knight-themed dance.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: “German ice dancing duo dressing like joker and Harley Quinn skating to a bluesy remix of toxic by Britney Spears is proof the American sphere of cultural influence has reached a new level of twistedness.”

Another person questioned their sanity: “Did everyone else see the figure skaters dressed like the Joker and Harley Quinn, please tell me I’m not hallucinating.”

Although some were in it it.

Both the Joker and his criminally insane partner Harley Quinn have become a popular cosplay and Halloween costume choice in recent years thanks to their appearance in David Ayers’ 2016 Suicide Squad, where they were played by stars Jared Leto and Margot Robbie.

Robbie has since gone on to reprise the character in multiple spin-offs and solo features – most recently appearing as part of James Gunn’s 2021 reboot of The Suicide Squad.
