‘Maybe you should just go and shoot the homeless people?’

Joe Rogan has courted yet more controversy for comments he made on a recent episode of his podcast, in which he joked people should be allowed to “shoot the homeless people to take their belongings.

The podcast host made the comments to comedian Tom Segura, who was a guest on the July 14 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.

The pair were discussing the homeless population in Los Angeles when Segura said that a homeless person’s belongings are protected under law.

He said: “When you see stuff like that on the streets, at least in Los Angeles or California, that’s protected property.

“Like by law. That’s person’s property by law.”

Rogan replied: “You’d get arrested. Hilarious.”

Then, in an attempt to criticise LA for its efforts in dealing with violent crime, Rogan said: “But they wouldn’t arrest you if you shot somebody. Maybe you should just go shoot the homeless people.”

Segura responded: “I like your ideas.”

The comments were met with anger online.

One Twitter user labelled Rogan a “piece of s**t” for the comment, while another said he was “disgusting” for advocating the “murder of people who have nothing and are at their lowest.”

Theo Henderson, creator of the We the Unhoused podcast, told Variety that the comments were “repulsive.”

He said: “It’s infuriating because it’s not only out of touch, but the reality is that unhoused people are targeted by housed people.

“To advocate trying to shoot at unhoused people or just giving these dog whistles to people that do not see unhoused people as human beings — I can’t believe you’d advocate for it.”

In the same episode of the podcast, Rogan said that Justin Trudeau is “communist” and that Canada is “f***ed” if they don’t get rid of him as their leader.

He criticised the Canadian prime minister for his response to the pandemic, saying that Trudeau had revealed himself to be a “f***ing dictator.”

As Segura agreed with him, Rogan went on to label Trudeau as “gross” and a “sketchy guy.”

Rogan then turned his attention to Donald Trump, who he described as a “man baby.” He claimed the former president was “full of energy” because he’s “on Adderall.”

Rogan is infamous for voicing some pretty strong and controversial opinions on his podcast. In particular, in the past couple of years he has come under fire for promoting unproven treatments for covid and voicing scepticism about the vaccine.

This led to many calling for his podcasts to be removed from Spotify, with musicians, including ‘Sweet Caroline’ singer Neil Diamond, removing their music from the streaming platform in protest at Spotify’s lack of action over the comments.
