Jim Broadbent gives details about his new Game of Thrones character

Unlike Jon Snow, he knows something

Unlike Jon Snow, he knows something.

Given the fact that George R.R Martin and the Game of Thrones showrunners have a tendency to kill off our favourite characters, it’s nice to see that they’re also taking the time to expand the list of movers and shakers in the Seven Kingdoms.

As is the norm with every season of the hit show, we’re going to be introduced to new characters and the Academy Award-winning actor is a superb addition to the cast.

To a paraphrase the words of House Martell, if you want to stay unbowed, unbent, unbroken and unspoiled, consider this your spoiler alert.

Harry Potter fans will already know Broadbent from his lovable turn as Professor Slughorn and the actor will yet again be playing an academic in a beloved fantasy franchise because he’s set to play a maester in Season 7.

In an interview with Screenscrush, Broadbent said that “I’m a maester, an archmaester. I’m an old professor character.”

The actor also stated that he will be appearing in five of the seven episodes of Season 7 and that he’ll be acting alongside John Bradley(Samwell Tarly)

“I did five episodes. I did sort of one major scene in each episode”, he said.

Given that he’s playing a maester, fans of the book have already started to speculate about who Broadbent might be playing.

While nothing official has been announced yet, it’s widely assumed that he has been cast as Maester Marwyn.

If you need a quick reminder, in Martin’s novel A Feast for Crows, Marwyn is the character that Sam shares information with about everything that he’s seen beyond The Wall with the White Walkers.

After hearing about Daenerys and her dragons, Marwyn then mysteriously vanishes to find the Mother of Dragons.

Unlike winter, the new episodes can’t come quickly enough.
