Our TV movie pick for tonight (Saturday, 12 July) is Jaws 2, the sequel to Steven Spielberg's legendary shark thriller Jaws.
The 1978 follow-up was directed by Jeannot Szwarc (Supergirl). It sees Roy Scheider reprise his role as Police Chief Martin Brody, alongside returning castmates Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton.
"Years after the shark attacks that left Amity Island reeling, Police Chief Martin Brody (Scheider) finds new trouble lurking in the waters," the plot synopsis reads.
"Mayor Vaughn (Hamilton) wants to rid the beach town of the stain on its reputation. But the disappearance of a pair of divers suggests that all is not right.
"When Brody voices his warnings about holding a sailing competition, everyone thinks it's post-traumatic stress. That is, until a shark fin cuts through the water."
Though it was a massive hit at the box office upon release, Jaws 2 earned mixed reviews from critics - with many feeling it was an unnecessary sequel and that it lacked much of the craft of the original.
That said, it is widely considered the best of the three Jaws sequels and has become a bit of a cult favourite in the decades since.
For one, its tagline is legendary: "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water..." But also, some have compared the sequences of the shark stalking the teenage characters to the slasher genre that would become popular in the late '70s and '80s.
In fact, Jaws 2 was just the focus of an entire episode of the hit movie podcast The Rewatchables.
The sequel is airing on TV tonight on ITV4 at 11.10pm. It is also streaming on ITVX and Prime Video.
