A source within the show told The Sun: "Chris is really struggling to master the art of driving and talking to camera, which is crucial. He is in a massive sweat about it because he often ends up fluffing his lines.
"The professional drivers are doing a lot more to cover for him and the camera crew are getting frustrated."
Former Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond apparently had no such trouble, reportedly nailing the majority of their segments on the first attempt.
The new series is set to launch on BBC2 in May, but crew are worried that Evans's struggle may delay production further.Explore more on these topics:
