Charlie Herbert

She described it as a ‘career highlight’

An extra from the Harry Potter films has said a major star in the franchise spat in her face in a deleted scene.

Whilst the Harry Potter films were monumentally huge global successes that launched the careers of a number of British acting stars, it doesn’t sound like it was all glitz and glamour during filming.

A woman who appeared as an extra in one of the movies has discussed one of her experiences during filming.

Samantha Clinch regularly posts to her TikTok account about what it was like to be involved in one of the biggest film franchises of all time, and has amassed more than 37,000 followers on the platform.

But it’s one story about an actor spitting in her face that has gone viral, racking up

Clinch appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Having initially been cast as an unnamed extra, she was later given the role of Eloise Midgen.

She recalled how one scene in the franchise’s fourth installment led to her being spat in the face by one of the film’s stars.

The scene in question involves Dumbledore, played by the late Sir Michael Gambon, announcing to pupils of Hogwarts that the Dementors have arrived at the school.

Clinch said:  “In Goblet of Fire, there’s a moment where they need to announce that the dementors are coming, and obviously this is absolutely terrifying, terrifying news for everyone involved.

“Anyway, he comes over to the table that I’m at and puts his hand on my shoulder, looks at me directly in the face, and said, ‘The dementors are coming!’”

Clinch was cast as Eloise Midgen, right, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Warner Bros)

She revealed that “Dumbledore spat in my eyes” during the filming.

“Quite literally frothing at the mouth […] there was spit everywhere […] I might have got it in my eye,” she said.

The scene ended up on the cutting room floor and never made it to the final product, Clinch still sees it as a “career highlight.”
