Guillermo Del Toro is making a Black Mirror-style horror anthology for Netflix

Wil Jones

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro made the greatest film of all time

And that film is of course Blade 2.

Oh yeah, he also made Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, The Devil’s Backbone and the Hellboy movies. He also won the Best Director Oscar this year for The Shape of Water, and that film also picked up the Best Picture award.

So yeah, it’s fair to say he’s a pretty talented filmmaker.

He has previously dipped his toe into TV – The Strain, based on his vampire novel, ran for 46 episodes on FX. Now however he is working with Netflix on something that sounds very exciting. He already created and executive produced the animated series Trollhunters for the streaming service, but it seems they both liked working together, so he pitched them a horror anthology. And because Netflix are not stupid, they said yes. Of course, Netflix are responsible for the greatest anthology show of recent times: Charlie Brooker’s dark sci-fi series Black Mirror. And a horror-version of Black Mirror obviously has the potential to be amazing,

Entitled Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight, the show already has The Shape of Water producer J. Miles Dale is on board as an executive producer, and del Toro himself will be listed as be as creator and executive producer. There’s no word on if he will write or direct any episodes, but we would be very surprised – and disappointed – if he’s not heavily involved with making the show.

The show doesn’t have a shooting date as of yet, so don’t expect it any time soon. But it is definitely on our radar.
