Euron Greyjoy’s rumoured “priceless gift” for Cersei could spell terrible news for Daenerys

This would change everything

JOE

Game of Thrones is back, and we’ve never been happier to say that ‘winter is here’.

With the first episode of season seven reaching our screens last week, the days since have been filled with the show’s fans picking out its various hidden messages and theories and sharing them across social media

Now, as we ready ourselves for episode two, there’s another intriguing fan theory doing the rounds.

At this point, we’ll do that thing where we hit ‘bold’ and caps lock, and warn those of you that haven’t yet seen episode one that spoilers may lie in wait.

WARNING: SPOILERS MAY LIE IN WAIT

There. Happy now? Good. Let us continue.

Euron Greyjoy’s appearance in episode one saw him pay a visit to King’s Landing, managing to preposition Cersei Lannister whilst taking a few digs at her brother, Jaime, in the process.

Cersei turned his offer of marriage down, explaining that she felt Euron wasn’t trustworthy. To prove otherwise, Euron promised that we would leave King’s Landing – promising only to return when he could deliver Cersei a “priceless gift”.

Euron doesn’t reveal what the gift actually is, naturally prompting lots of speculation from fans of the show. Although many interpreted it to be a promise to return Cersei’s brother Tyrion to the capital, another theory being circulated centres on a clue from one of the books from which the show originates.

In the books, Euron owns a horn called ‘Dragonbinder’, which supposedly has the power to enslave dragons. Given that Daenerys (who currently looks a serious threat to Cersei’s throne) has three dragons, you can understand why such an item might seem attractive to the Lannisters.

Pilou Asbæk, the man who plays Euron, even briefly touched on the subject of Dragonbinder during an interview last year. However, as pointed out by NME, the interview was recorded prior to he would have received his script for the new season. With that in mind, it may be that he was simply teasing fans.

If it proves to be correct, Daenerys’ challenge to the Iron Throne will suddenly appear much less formidable.
