Ed Sheeran is giving acting a shot in FX's new period drama The Bastard Executioner, a medieval series that is rumoured to be pretty damn gruesome.

To be honest, if the show is half as good as its name, then we're going to be big fans. The drama follows a 14th century warrior as his life is changed forever when a 'divine messenger' asks him to become a journeyman executioner. It's currently being filmed in the UK and Sheeran is reportedly playing Sir Cormac, an ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder. This is not the first time Sheeran has played the small screen, recording a version of his bluesy cover of Foy Vance's 'Make it Rain' for the penultimate episode of Sons of Anarchy. as well as appearing on NBC's 'Undateable'.
