American broadcasting giants Disney have agreed a new partnership with ITV that will see TV shows shared across each company’s streaming platforms, per Scott Bryan.
As part of the collaboration, UK users will get the chance to watch hit Disney+ programmes like The Bear, Andor and Only Murders in the Building on ITVX at no extra cost, while popular ITV dramas like Mr Bates vs The Post Office will be available to Disney+ subscribers.
Access to each other’s TV shows will be available from as soon as the 16th of July.
Users can find them in a brand new section on each platform which will be named ‘Taste of ITVX’ and a ‘Taste of Disney+’ respectively.
While customers will get access to some of the most popular shows around, it is still expected that new series will remain exclusives with their parent company for the first few months after release.
A spokesperson for Disney said:“We are proud of this innovative collaboration with ITV, which will allow us to bring Disney+ customers some of the UK’s favorite and buzzworthy shows and encourage ITVX viewers to discover some of Disney+’s award-winning series and blockbuster films.”
While collaborations of this kind are quite common in America, it is the first deal between an American streaming company and a UK broadcaster.
So far, only UK-based Disney+ plus subscribers will benefit from the new scheme, rather than Disney’s much larger audience in the USA.
