As we tried to fill the gaping hole between the end of the domestic season and Saturday night’s all-Madrid Champion League final, we found ourselves in familiar territory – binge-watching House of Cards on Netflix.
But the more we watched Kevin Spacey and co, the more we were reminded of Saturday night’s game.
As Frank Underwood casually navigated his way to the top, taking no prisoners in the process, we couldn’t help but think of the similarities between him and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone.
Now we’re not trying to suggest that Simeone has killed anyone to get where he is (although we have no evidence that he hasn’t either), but you can just imagine the Argentine turning to a camera and explaining away some of his more questionable behaviour by quoting the fictional American president.
And don’t worry if you can’t imagine it, because we’ve mocked up what it might look like for you!
