This is a unique approach
One of the most anticipated films of 2025 was reportedly shot entirely on an iPhone 15.
Director, Danny Boyle, 67, has reportedly challenged himself and his team by ambitiously deciding to film his upcoming zombie movie on adapted models of the iPhone 15.
The news comes just after Apple launched the new iPhone 16 which boasts an ultra-wide camera and auto-focus.
The feature film, titled 28 Years Later, is a sequel to his 2002 film, 28 Days Later and stars some of Hollywood’s biggest names such as Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylo-Johnson.
The cast and crew finished shooting the film in August and despite those involved reportedly signing an NDA to prevent news of the filming methods being leaked, photos taken by paparazzi clearly show the unique approach.
While the image appears completely normal for a movie set at first, a professional camera operator who does not work on the film told Wired that a closer look shows a lens attached to a protective cage that may potentially be holding an iPhone.
Following the rumours, multiple sources close to the film confirmed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max was used as the primary camera.
It is thought that Boyle probably used high-tech accessories with the iPhone to ensure the picture was as clear as possible.
If the movie was filmed entirely on adapted iPhones, its $75million (£56.4million) budget would make it one of the biggest films to date filmed with smartphones.
It’s not the first time something like this has been done. Sean Baker’s 2015 movie, ‘Tangerine’, was also shot using an iPhone as was Steven Sonderbergh’s 2018 drama ‘Unsane’.
Details of the upcoming film’s plot have not yet been released, but it has been confirmed that Cillian Murphy will reprise his role in front of the camera and serve as an executive producer.
